ERP Selection Checklist

This ERP selection checklist helps management compare vendors beyond price. A cheaper ERP can become costly if it misses critical workflows, reporting, migration and support requirements.

Check industry fit

Ask whether the ERP has already handled construction, real estate or manufacturing workflows similar to yours. Generic accounting software may not cover project costing, site inventory, BOM, MRP, contractor billing, quality or job work properly.

Check customization and reporting

Confirm whether fields, approval rules, print formats, dashboards, MIS reports and integrations can be modified. Many ERP failures happen because users continue Excel reports outside the system.

Check implementation responsibility

Clarify who will clean data, import masters, train users, configure roles, test reports and support go-live. A good ERP vendor should guide the full implementation path, not just provide login credentials.

Check long-term ownership cost

Compare license, hosting, support, customization, training, migration and future enhancement cost. The right ERP should reduce leakage, delay and duplicate work enough to justify the investment.
